Year 1

12.7.24

This week I would like the children to write a report about anything of their choice. It should have a title, introduction, subheadings and a picture.

Going for Gold: will feature their very best King's Court handwriting.

5.7.24

Last week the children were asked to research an animal of their choice. This week I would like the children to have a go at writing a report about that animal with a title, introduction and subheadings for each section of information. The children may add pictures to their report aswell.

Going for Gold: to layout your report clearly.

28.6.24

This week I would like the children to research an animal of their choice focussing on appearance, what they like to eat and their lifecycle (linking to our PSHE work) plus anything else they may like to add.

The children may choose to find out facts from an information book or looking on the internet with support.

They can choose to record the facts however they wish; they could create a mind map or a list.

Going for Gold: to focus on writing three or more facts for each section

21.6.24

Following on from last week's homework I would like the children to use the information they gathered from interviewing a family member to create a report like the ones we have done in school.

Remind your child they will need to include:

A title

An introduction

Subheadings for each new section

Pictures.

The subheadings we have used in school are:

Appearance

Activities

Favourites

However they do not need to follow that structure if they have asked other questions/ have information they would like to include.

Going for Gold: A report presented beautifully in your best King's Court handwriting.

14.6.24

This week we have been writing a report titled 'All about me'

We have learnt we need a title, introduction and subheadings for each new section of our report.

Please could the children choose a family member or friend that they would like to 'interview' to find out more about. This could include asking them about their appearance, what they like to do and some of their favourite things for example colour, animal, sport, book etc.

They can record their answers in a mind map and keep it safe for next week's homework.

7.6.24

This term our topic is non- chronological reports.

We have been looking at a report this week on hedgehogs and writing our own sentences.

Can the children write 3 sentences about hedgehogs that they have learnt from the report we looked at this week?

Some of our key words were:

Hedgehog

habitat

hoglet

nocturnal

omnivore

mammals

Can the children write a sentence remembering a capital letter, finger spaces and full stops.

Going for Gold: Write their sentences in their best King's Court handwriting.
