There are three ways that we learn to spell words:
- Off by heart - words that we use often and usually can't be sounded out (although the group have been given some words that can be sounded out while they develop more skill and confidence)
- Sounding out - words that are written the way they sound using a spelling rule eg. c-a-t, j-u-m-p-i-n-g, s-t-a-tion.
- If I know a word, I can change it to make a new word eg. look - book, stream - scream.
