Maths

I have provided some guidance for supporting with reading and writing here is a couple of ideas for maths:

Counting

When amounts get larger, your child may need to slow down their counting and really point to/move the object as they’re counting.

Recognising numbers

If you child is not sure, you could say the last few numbers before and pause at the number eg: 5, 6….? or say it is 1 more than 6 or one less than 8.

Adding and taking away

Provide them with objects/ or encourage them to use their fingers to physically be able to add and take away. It is not an expectation that they are to do this in their heads.

Below are some useful videos that focus on specific topics that we cover in Maths in the Early Years.
