Reading
We follow the RWI phonics programme, which helps children to develop the confidence and skills necessary to become successful readers. Once all the set 1 sounds have been taught, children move on to oral blending sound books, followed by sheet ditties and then on to reading books matched to their phonics ability and fluency.
We believe that reading is a partnership between school and home, and regular reading at home is part of the EYFS home learning. This consistent practice at home can help children develop fluency and word comprehension, which helps support their progress and love of reading. Please keep a record of any reading done at home, including sharing stories together, so we can challenge their learning and development further.

When using the tricky word resources below:
Focus on the first set of words first. Once your child is confident with these move on to the others.
Tricky word game- You will need to print off the table, have a dice and some counters (if using multiple times)or you could just tick them off. Take it in turns to roll the dice- read the word associated with the number rolled on the dice, place a counter on top or tick off. The next time that number is rolled read the next word.
Tricky words-
Print off and hide around the house- every time your child finds one they read it.
Print off 2 copies to play a game or pairs or snap reading the word each time it is uncovered or placed down.
