Augustus struggled safely to the platform.  His face hurt and felt strange, but he picked up the steel brush and looked at the damaged boat.  He knew that it would take only two days to reach the English Channel.  Could he repair the damage before that?  Jim placed a pot of paint in the space on the platform.  "You'll need that," he said.  "I've got a visitor joining the boat at the next lock.  You just stay out here and behave yourself.  No more mistakes Mr Gus."
