Support for Parents

I have put together some guidance which I hope you will find useful to support you in supporting your child.

Home Learning

We have enjoyed learning about...

Term 1

We have been doing lots of activities based on our listening and attention, our understanding and our speaking. We have enjoyed games based on 2 part instructions for example stand on leg and touch your nose. We have listened to our friends tell us about their favourite colours, toys and animals and to see if we could remember. We have read the stories of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff and the 3 Little Pigs. We have enjoyed retelling them with puppets and acting out the stories using actions and the repeated refrains. Ask your child to show you the action for the troll :) Can they remember any of the refrains? We have enjoyed our outdoor learning sessions and wearing our suits and wellies to play in the garden whatever the weather! We have been Maths super stars reviewing our mathematical understanding across all areas including number, shape, position, pattern and measures. The children have developed their play in the home corner to become a restaurant/cafe which has now been resourced to facilitate this further.  The children finished the term learning all about Harvest and recording a video of our Harvest assembly for our grown ups to see.

Term 2

We started our term learning about how to keep safe around fireworks. I was so impressed with the way the children were able to recall them each day. We thought about our senses and what we could hear and see when watching fireworks. We enjoyed the whole school community week learning about Remembrance day, Diwali and doing our own science experiments for world science day. We explored magnetic and not magnetic objects, items that could float and sink, the rain cloud experiment and which materials dissolved when mixed in water. We loved being scientists!

We did lots of learning through the Christmas story including sequencing, creating our own story map and using it to retell the story. We also completed some shared writing- Miss Powell was very impressed. We wrote letters to Santa and took them to the postbox to post, we even saw the postman coming to collect our letters. We all played a very important role in the Christmas production this year being, story tellers and actors and learning lots of songs! We are finishing our term with lots of Christmas fun including a morning in the studio creating special cards and gifts,a Christmas party, Virtual Christmas pantomime and our Christmas lunch!
