How can we protect against earthquakes? In this lesson, we are going to be learning about measures cities have taken to protect their people and the city’s infrastructure against earthquakes.

In this final session about Earthquakes, we are going to think about what we can do to protect ourselves and our infrastructure against them. Use today's video to learn a little bit more about this, for today, I do not want you to complete the activities for the video. Instead, once you have finished the video, I would like everyone to try to design their very own 'earthquake proof' building! The video should give you some ideas about materials, shape and size. Once you have completed your design, please choose one challenge from below to complete it.

Bronze: Can you label your building with the different parts?

Silver: Can you label your building, and write a short, simple sentence explaining your design choice.

Gold: Can you complete the silver challenge, then, design a building that you don't feel would manage well in an earthquake. After doing this, can you create a short video or written piece explaining why this would not be a good building?
