Welcome to the early years...
In the early years at King's Court First School the children are aged between 4 and 5 years old and are completing their Reception year.
We are firm believers that children learn best through purposeful play and the children have the chance to develop their knowledge and skills within our large, well resourced inside and outdoor provision.
Children take part in daily carpet time sessions including phonics and maths. We particularly enjoy learning outside and have weekly outdoor learning sessions.
If you are new to the school or would like to have a look at our Early Years in more detail. Please click on the link below which will take you to the admissions page, where you will find out a little more about our environment and how we structure our day through the new parent presentation and the virtual parent tour.

New Parent Meeting
Wednesday 9th September- 6pm
Find out what we enjoyed learning about from September 2019- March 2020.
We have had a very busy start to our term already.
During week 1 we looked at the story of Mr Wolf's pancakes, we learnt about the ingredients we needed and even wrote our own recipes so we could cook some of our very own over in the gatehouse. We enjoyed eating them whilst watching Mr Wolf on the interactive whiteboard. Before the holidays the children had shown a keen interested in digging so we opened up the mud kitchen during busy learning time. The children have thoroughly enjoyed it! (See photo's below)
Week 2- we read the story of Zog, we explored the different features of a dragon and visited the studio to design our own dragons. We used the phoneme cubes to create dragon names and wrote a name label for our dragon. We talked about displaying our dragons in a gallery. We were also fortunate enough to receive a dance workshop based on the enormous crocodile to celebrate world book day.
Week 3- This week we have written a sentence all about the dragons we created last week. (We have a display coming soon. Please pop in to see it.) We have used the John Lewis Christmas advert to continue our learning on dragons. We have been thinking about Edgar's skill of breathing fire and what special skill our dragons would have. We thought about our own special skills and discussed how Edgar was feeling at different points in the clip.
We also attended a whole school assembly about Science week and learnt lots about space. We then had a workshop where we thought about the animals in our local environment.
Welcome back and wishing you a very Happy New Year!
Week 1-The children have made a great start to term 3 already with lots of child -initiated writing and exploring with tape measures outside. (Photo's to follow soon.) We also had our very first PE session! The children tried really hard changing in to their PE kits and back in to their uniforms! Well done Rabbits and Robins!
Week 2- This week we have enjoyed measuring using people, hands, feet, cubes and tape measures. We have loved using materials to create dens outside. We have also been learning about how to look after ourselves. Ask your child if they can remember the 6 ways to keep healthy. ( Balanced diet, rest, suitable clothing, keeping clean, exercise and talking about our feelings.)
Week 3- This week we have been focusing on Chinese New Year and 3D shapes. We have been creating actions for the animals in the Chinese new year story and searching for 3D shapes in the environment. We also made bird feeders in our outdoor learning session ahead of the 'Big Bird Watch' next week.
We enjoyed a visit from Salty the new gritter in the borough and explored what happened when we added salt to ice cubes in the garden.
We have been very fortunate to receive some 'Super Star Sport' sessions which the children have absolutely loved. We are hoping to work in partnership with them to offer some clubs to the children before and after school. So watch this space.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the library launch last Friday, dressing as superheroes, exploring the new library and taking part in a book swap.
We enjoyed our first trip outside of the school gates as we walked to the postbox to post our letters to Santa. Thank you to all the grown ups who came with us.
I think you would agree the children did an amazing job in the Christmas production on Wednesday. We were also lucky enough to have a visit from an elf from the North Pole. "I loved the Elf and the snow" "When they put melted snow on, the snow grew." "The Elf's favourite song was Jingle Bells."
W/C: 16th December 2019
We have had a very exciting week. On Tuesday morning, we visited the gatehouse for the first time. We were very busy making cards and gifts for our families. On Wednesday, it was our class party. We even had a visit from Santa! He bought us some really nice games for our classroom, a cushion for our reading area and a balance scale game for our Maths area. ( A big thank you to the PTA for funding this!) On Thursday, we were very lucky and got to watch a pantomime called Dick Whittington. (Another big thank you to the PTA!)
