This week we have been looking at doubling as part of our multiplication calculations. These can be done as repeated addition such as 3 + 3 = 6 but also can be done as 3 x 2 = 6.
When we were looking at doubling 2 digit numbers, we were partitioning the numbers into 10s and 1s and then doubling the 10s first, then the ones then adding the answer together. An example would be:
Double 23 (20 + 3)
20 + 20 = 40
3 + 3 = 6
40 + 6 = 46
If the children choose silver or gold this week, then they will need to work out how many tens and ones are shown in the pictures then have a go at doubling the numbers they make using the structure of the example above. Bronze challenge will be using pictures to help them visually double numbers.
Please do not make the children work through all the challenges. The children are so established at self selecting their own challenge when we do maths and they will know what challenge they have been successful at this week to have a go at for their homework.
